Position Description:

The Manager of Systems Engineering is responsible for overseeing the operational and implementation aspects of Maxim’s on-premise and cloud-based infrastructure platforms and services by directing the activities of a team of Systems Engineers and System Administrators.  This includes working with the Enterprise Architecture team to define and deliver the capabilities described in Maxim’s technology roadmaps, managing the lifecycle of infrastructure services including planned maintenance and enhancements, as well aligning the team’s activities and goals with the other teams within the IS Department.  For larger initiatives, this role will coordinate with the Project Management Office on resourcing planning, timelines, implementation tasks, and deliverables.  Additionally, this position requires an understanding of Maxim’s enterprise applications so as to ensure their availability, security, and performance.  

The manager will provide direction on IT infrastructure projects in order to achieve key business objectives and establish relationships with the business partners to ensure that service level expectations are met.

This role manages resources, promotes employee development, and maintains overall accountability for processes and ongoing support of IT services.  

  • Effectively manages system engineers to plan, design, develop and implement technologies or enhancements that support the Maxim Healthcare enterprise server infrastructure.
  • Develops and communicates long term, strategic plans for maintaining and enhancing IT infrastructure services.  Ensuring alignment to the business needs.
  • Evaluates, develops, and manages partnerships (internal and external) involved with server administration, enterprise application hosting, and similar technical services.
  • Sets direction and prioritization on activities for System Engineering and IS Operaitons team.
  • Evaluates staffing resources and communicates status information to functional managers. 
  • Work with cross functional IT management team to optimize services, eliminate redundancy and assure customer satisfaction.
  • Researches, evaluates, and helps implement emerging technologies.
  • Ensures technical documents are created and available for the IS Operations team to implement and support IT technologies.  
  • Supports the incident management process for the production environment and directs the team in performing Level III root cause analysis of production incidents with the goal of identifying long term solutions and enhancements.
  • Reviews and enforces Information Services and company policies, processes, and procedures. 
  • Evaluates and recommends hardware and software solutions for IT teams and business groups.
  • Consistently models the company’s philosophy of customer service, compliance, and IT security.
  • Implement and maintain IT services and equipment in a cost effective manner.
  • Contributes in developing IS budgets and manages daily operations within budgetary targets.
  • Responsible for the hiring, professional development, and performance evaluation of direct reports.
Position Requirements:
  • Six to eight (6-8) years of experience in an IT management or supervisory role with responsibility for infrastructure and/or operations at an enterprise level.
  • Demonstrated ability to motivate, direct, and manage Information Services personnel.
  • Detailed knowledge of server hardware, system software, and tools.  Demonstrates the ability to manage large technically complex projects requiring integration, structured analysis and design, business systems planning and implementation methodology. 
  • Demonstrated ability to perform long-range strategic IT planning and life cycle management.  Familiarity with preparing annual IT budgets.
  • Demonstrates a strong background with enterprise networking architecture, data communications, data and network security, server virtualization, storage, VoIP, etc.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills; ability to address business issues and conflicts in a professional, constructive manner; demonstrates ability to present material clearly and effectively in both large and small meeting environments; effective organization, planning, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to develop and present proposed technology investments with a well-researched business case and supporting analysis.
  • Demonstrated project management, vendor management, and change management capabilities with appropriate attention to detail and proactive communications to leadership and end users.
  • Ability to learn and apply technical, business, and problem-solving skills to complement a strong leadership and management skill set.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science/IT engineering, or a combination of related education and experience.
