Matthew Duffield, LPN, Maxim's 2017 West Region Caregiver of the Year

  • He has been providing more than two years of quality, personalized care to a quadriplegic and ventilator-dependent nine-year-old patient
  • Under Duffield’s care, both in the home and at school, the patient is able to participate in extracurricular activities that improve his quality of life

A resident of Anchorage, Alaska, Matthew Duffield, LPN,  has been providing more than two years of quality, personalized care to a quadriplegic and ventilator-dependent nine-year-old boy named Austin.

Austin participates in extracurricular activities that improve his quality of life. In school, Matt is part of the class, helping Austin gain confidence and independence.

“I am so grateful for the care that our son receives, especially the special attention and patience Matt gives him,” said the Austin’s family. “While Matt’s title is ‘nurse,' he is so much more than that to us. He is the kindest and most compassionate person we know.”
