The cost of home healthcare depends on a variety of factors, including the type of patient condition(s), level of care needed (personal care, intermittent care, PDN, etc.), time required in the home and level of care professional (CNA, RN, etc.). Insurance may cover some or all costs of in-home care. Contact your local Maxim office for more information, or to talk through your specific circumstances. We’re here to help.

Medicare does offer some home health coverage. Visit https://www.medicare.gov/coverage/home-health-services for more information.

Private duty nursing (PDN) is specialized nursing care provided within the comfort of your home. It is typically delivered by licensed practical nurses (LPNs) or registered nurses (RNs) to those who require continuous, 1:1 medical attention or long-term medical support. Maxim’s home healthcare programs are accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Health Care (ACHC).

Home care focuses on assisting with daily living activitiesnot providing specialized medical care. Maxim’s compassionate home care providers can help with bathing, dressing, personal hygiene, light housekeeping and laundry, meal preparation, companionship and transportation. We typically refer to home care services as personal care, and they are designed to support the individual wellness journey, combat loneliness and enhance quality of life through a supplemental, non-intrusive approach.

Home healthcare is specialized medical care administered by licensed medical professionals (such as RNs and LPNs) within the comfort of home. It is intended for people recovering from illness, surgery, injury or those managing serious medical conditions at home. Examples of home healthcare services include:

  • Wound care
  • IV therapy or injections
  • Monitoring chronic health conditions such as diabetes or cardiac disease
  • Medication administration and management
  • Ventilator and tracheostomy management
  • Enteral feeding and management

A home health agency provides skilled medical support to patients in their homes. To qualify as a home health agency for Medicare and Medicaid reimbursement, an organization must meet certain federal and state regulations. Maxim’s offices are accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Health Care (ACHC) and vetted through background checks and qualifications.

Qualifying for private duty nursing depends on a variety of factors, including:

  • Medical necessity — A patient must require ongoing, skilled nursing care for needs such as:
    • Ventilator or tracheostomy management
    • Tube feeding management
    • Frequent, complex IV management and administration of medications and/or TPN
    • Seizure monitoring and intervention
    • Complex would care in conjunction with other skilled nursing needs
    • Vital signs or chronic condition monitoring in conjunction with other skilled nursing needs
  • Physician’s order — A doctor evaluates the patient’s condition, documents the medical need for continuous care and prescribes in-home nursing support.
  • Plan of care — A detailed care plan must outline required nursing tasks and the number of in-home care hours required per day or week.

This is not a comprehensive list, please consult with your physician for more information.
