At Maxim Healthcare, caring for others is more than what we do. It is who we are. Every day, our nurses and caregivers make a meaningful difference in the lives of patients and families by providing compassionate care in the comfort of home. Behind the scenes, our office teams work tirelessly to connect families with the support they need.
That spirit of service extends beyond our daily work. Through Maxim Service Day, employees step away from their desks and routines to give back to the communities they call home. Whether volunteering alongside coworkers or supporting a cause independently, team members can dedicate their time and talents to any 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that is making a difference in the lives of others.
Spreading hope
On January 17, 2026, the Wilmington, North Carolina team volunteered at the Good Shepherd Center, where they served lunch to individuals experiencing homelessness and food insecurity.
For the team, the experience was a powerful reminder of the importance of compassion, kindness and human connection. Working together outside of the office also strengthened team relationships while providing an opportunity to support those facing difficult circumstances.
“Maxim Service Day represents stepping beyond our daily responsibilities to serve others,” shares Shama Parker. “It was deeply fulfilling to work together toward a shared purpose and make a meaningful impact, even in a small way.”
Feeding those in need
Interns from Maxim’s headquarters in Columbia, Maryland, volunteered at the Howard County Food Bank on July 31, 2026, as part of the company’s annual internship program.
Guided by their managers, the group spent the day organizing fresh produce, dairy products and frozen foods, carefully sorting donations by food type and expiration date to help prepare them for community distribution.
For intern Harrison Dobbins, the experience served as an important reminder to stay grounded and mindful of the challenges others face.
“Maxim Service Day means giving back to others in times when you might otherwise overlook your daily privileges,” Dobbins says. “It reminds you to always think of those in need who do not share the same situation or experience as you.”
Preparing students for future success
On May 20, 2026, Sharon Wong and her colleague volunteered at Catonsville High School in Catonsville, Maryland, where they conducted mock interviews with students and provided feedback designed to help them build confidence and strengthen their interviewing skills.
The mock interviews centered on behavioral and soft-skill questions, including topics such as conflict resolution, problem solving and managing stressful situations. Students practiced answering common interview questions while learning how to communicate their strengths effectively.
“Service is an important part of leadership,” Sharon says. “I wanted the opportunity to develop my people skills while helping students grow their confidence. High school is a formative time in a young person’s life, and I enjoyed supporting students as they identified their strengths, practiced communicating effectively and prepared for future interviews and career opportunities.”
Making a difference for sick children
On May 8, 2026, Tyler Shrum and his team spent their Maxim Service Day volunteering at Dolly Parton’s Children’s Hospital Zoo Night at the Knoxville Tennessee Zoo.
The special event provided children who are current or former hospital patients, along with their families, an opportunity to enjoy an exclusive afternoon at the zoo in a safe and welcoming environment. The event allowed families to step away from the challenges of medical care and simply enjoy time together.
Tyler’s team volunteered alongside a group of community members who dress as popular superheroes and characters to create memorable experiences for children. For the event, Tyler suited up as the Mandalorian from Star Wars, posing for photos with children and families throughout the day.
“We wore costumes from Marvel, Disney, DC and Star Wars, everything kids love,” Tyler says.
For Tyler, the most rewarding part of the experience was seeing the joy it brought to children facing difficult circumstances.
“I enjoyed bringing smiles to kids who are going through so much at the hospital,” he shares.
Tyler also expressed appreciation for Maxim’s support of volunteerism.
“It’s great to give back to the community and help those who are less fortunate, and the fact Maxim allows us to take time to do that is awesome.”
