Internships are often the first step toward a successful career, providing valuable experience, professional development and opportunities to build lasting connections. At Maxim Healthcare, internships offer much more than resume-building experiences. They help shape future leaders.
For Connor Nguyenkhoa, Harrison Dobbins and Cole Harrsen, their internship experiences laid the foundation for careers that continue to grow today. From IT Asset Management and Marketing to Finance, each of their journeys demonstrates how curiosity, teamwork and willingness to learn can create opportunities long after an internship ends.
Connor Nguyenkhoa
Connor Nguyenkhoa’s journey with Maxim began on May 23, 2022, when he joined the company as an IT Asset Administrator Intern within IS Vendor Management. After a successful first internship, he returned for a second internship experience beginning June 5, 2023, continuing to build his knowledge and skills within IT Asset Management (ITAM).
Today, Nguyenkhoa serves as IT Asset Administrator II, a role that reflects years of growth and dedication. When asked about the most valuable lesson he learned as an intern, Nguyenkhoa points to the importance of teamwork.
“Team cooperation and collaboration is vital.”
In the fast-paced world of IT Asset Management, his team manages a constant flow of responsibilities, including device shipping, asset organization, hardware and software tracking and inventory management. Success depends on team members working together to break complex processes into manageable pieces and ensure daily operations run smoothly.
While many of Nguyenkhoa’s day-to-day responsibilities remain similar to those he performed as an intern, his role has evolved significantly over the years. After becoming a full-time employee in 2024, he became an integral part of maintaining daily operations as an IT Asset Administrator / IT Asset Administrator I. Following his promotion to IT Asset Administrator II in 2026, Nguyenkhoa stepped into a leadership role that includes supporting department initiatives, assisting with projects, training new team members and helping oversee departmental operations alongside his manager.
Looking back, Nguyenkhoa considers one of his greatest accomplishments to be improving data accuracy and organization across the department.
“ITAM is always constantly on the move. It can be a challenge to make sure information aligns in real time with the field.”
Through his continued efforts, Nguyenkhoa has helped strengthen inventory tracking processes and maintain accurate records, contributing to the overall success and efficiency of the department.
Harrison Dobbins
Harrison Dobbins was a Marketing intern in 2026 and shortly after the internship concluded, he was offered a full-time position as a Social Media Specialist.
“To be offered a position fresh out of college is the dream for a lot of college students, and I’m glad that I can say that is my reality.”
Dobbins credits much of his success to the support he received from his team throughout his internship experience.
“My team was very supportive of me as I started as an intern and even up until now. Any questions or concerns I may have, I know I can ask them and get the most helpful answers.”
As Dobbins transitions into his full-time role, he is taking on greater responsibilities while working alongside former mentors as peers. During his internship, he helped lead several social media posts across LinkedIn and other platforms that generated strong engagement and valuable audience insights.
The opportunity to continue growing his career at Maxim is something he doesn’t take for granted.
“With Maxim offering me the opportunity to continue my career here, it shows they believe in company loyalty as much as I do.”
Looking ahead, Dobbins hopes to continue building his expertise in marketing, with long-term goals of becoming either a Marketing Analyst or Marketing Director. He is also especially excited to support the company’s annual Caregiver of the Year Ceremony, one of Maxim’s most impactful and celebrated events.
For future interns, Dobbins emphasizes the importance of networking.
“Network as much as possible throughout your time here — even outside of your department.”
Dobbins encourages interns to take advantage of opportunities to shadow other departments, meet new people and learn how different teams contribute to the organization’s success.
Cole Harrsen
Cole Harrsen interned with Maxim’s Finance, Business Intelligence and Revenue Cycle teams in 2024 and now works within the Finance department.
When reflecting on his internship experience, Harrsen offers a simple but powerful piece of advice:
“Don’t be afraid to ask questions.”
For Harrsen, every interaction presents an opportunity to learn.
“Every project or conversation is an opportunity to learn or get to know someone. Seeking guidance and connections helps accelerate both professional growth and confidence.”
Harrsen’s advice highlights one of the most important aspects of any internship experience: growth comes from curiosity. Asking questions, seeking mentorship and building relationships can open doors to new opportunities while helping interns develop confidence in their abilities.
Building the Next Generation of Leaders
The stories of Nguyenkhoa, Dobbins and Harrsen demonstrate the lasting impact an internship can have. Each followed a different path, but all three share common themes: collaboration, continuous learning, and a commitment to growth.
From Nguyenkhoa’s progression into a leadership role within IT Asset Management, to Dobbin’s transition from student to marketing professional, to Harrsen’s emphasis on learning through connection, their experiences showcase what’s possible when interns are given opportunities to learn, contribute and succeed.
As Maxim continues to invest in internship programs, stories like these serve as a reminder that today’s interns are often tomorrow’s leaders.
