    Regional Center Programs

    Overview

California has a network of state funded organizations called Regional Centers which ensure individuals with developmental disabilities (Autism, Cerebral Palsy, Intellectual Delay, etc) receive the services and support they need to be able to live healthy lives and be a valued member of the general community.

For over 20 years, Maxim has partnered with Regional Centers in California to provide a variety of services designed to support individuals with developmental disabilities and their families.

    Personal Assistance (PA) Program
Designed for individuals transitioning into adulthood, and older individuals, our PA program provides a qualified and compassionate caregiver to assist individuals in accessing the community and performing various tasks of daily living.  Our personal assistance services are tailored to meet the individual needs of each one of our clients and are available 24-hours a day, seven days a week, including all holidays and weekends.

Our level of service and highly trained and screened Personal Assistant workers meet and exceed the healthcare industry’s highest standards.

Some of the areas our Personal Assistance can help: (varies by regional center)

    In-Home Respite Program

Our In-Home Respite Program provides families with a break from the daily responsibility of caring for a loved one with developmental disability.  Our screened and trained caregivers can be scheduled at the parents’ request to provide safety and supervision for their child within the comfort of their own home, allowing a much needed break and opportunity to take care of themselves.

Some families prefer to have someone they already know (Neighbor, Friend, Relative) provide the respite care authorized by the Regional Center.  Maxim can accommodate these requests following an expedited hiring process to hire and pay the person of the family’s choice as their Respite caregiver.

    Homemaker Program
The homemaker program helps safeguard the individual within their home, assisting with most aspects of daily living, personal care, and home maintenance.

    Intensive Behavior Support
Our Intensive Behavior Support program was created at the request of some regional centers for a program that can provide respite relief to the primary caregiver or family member, for individuals with more challenging behaviors.  Our thoughtful approach to designing a care plan for each individual and providing extensively trained direct care staff have allowed us to provide services for families that other programs have been unsuccessful with.  A Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) is very involved in planning the care for each client and performs regular supervisory visits with all direct care staff to ensure the safety and success of the client, and workers.

    Other Programs
Maxim has a variety of other specialty programs around the state designed to meet the unique needs of each family.  To learn more about what is available in your area, please contact your local Maxim office, or your Service Coordinator from your Regional Center.

    Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA)/Autism Services

    Overview

As signs of autism begin to appear in a child's life, parents are usually the first to notice the symptoms.

They may observe that their child is not responsive to other people, avoids eye contact, or engages in repetitive and sometimes harmful behavior. Raising a child is a rewarding and challenging time for any family, but when children are faced with the behavioral or developmental issues associated with autism, sometimes extra support and guidance is needed. That’s where we come in.

Our services are designed to meet the unique needs of children and their families, helping everyone overcome obstacles and create foundations for future success. In the comfort of a child's home, we come to the aid of children by offering services such as Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA).

    What is ABA Therapy?
Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is the most comprehensive and effective approach to improving the lives of children and the families of children with autism. The ABA approach uses a mixture of psychological, educational, and developmental techniques based upon the needs of the child. This includes teaching social, motor, language, communication, and cognitive skills.

What is the purpose of an ABA program?

    • Increase skills in language, play, and socialization
    • Decrease challenging behaviors that interfere with learning and daily functioning
    • Reduce or eliminate ritualistic or self-injurious behaviors
    • Increase attention span
    • Increase independence and improve adaptive skills

Studies have shown that ABA techniques are a proven treatment and the method of choice for treating individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) at any level. Even if the child does not achieve a “best outcome” result of normal functioning levels in all areas, nearly all children with autism benefit from intensive ABA programs.

Autism is the most common condition of the Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASDs), a category of neurological disorders marked by noticeable impairment in areas of development. It is typically identified within the first three years of a child's life, and is characterized by:

    • Difficulties with social interactions
    • Repetitive behaviors
    • Verbal and nonverbal communication problems
    • Obsessive or severely limited activities and interests
    • Asperger's Syndrome, a milder form of autism, is characterized by children who display autistic social behaviors but have advanced language skills.
