Behind every successful office is a strong support system. As a Field Support Operations Specialist (FSOS) for Maxim Healthcare’s West Region, Elizabeth Neal helps teams work efficiently, collaborate effectively, and deliver quality care. Learn how she supports teams, enhances employee experiences and drives operational excellence.
Growing through new experiences
Neal joined Maxim in May 2022 after spending a decade working in juvenile probation. Looking to expand her skills and pursue new growth opportunities, she made a career change and joined Maxim as a Field Support Specialist (FSS).
Three years later, Neal’s colleagues, who knew her professional goals and believed she would thrive in the FSOS position, urged her to apply.
“My entire office notified me about this role because they knew my goals and still are great supporters,” Neal says. “I wanted a broader understanding of Maxim and to expand my toolbox of resources for not only field support group (FSG) but anyone else I partner with.”
For employees interested in advancing their careers, Neal sees no shortage of opportunities.
“Maxim has a lot of growth opportunities,” she says. “In the short time I’ve been here, so much has improved, especially when it comes to investing in employee development.”
A role built on adaptability
Since stepping into the FSOS role in April 2025, Neal has played a key role in supporting teams across Maxim through payroll and onboarding assistance, team mentorship and collaboration with operational leaders on process improvement initiatives. She has also gained valuable experience working with different leadership styles and collaborating across a variety of teams and offices.
Unlike a traditional FSS position, the FSOS role evolves based on the needs of the region. Variety is one of the qualities that makes this role unique. A typical day varies based on what Neal calls the “mode” she is working in. One day may focus on operational tasks like payroll or onboarding, while another may involve reporting compliance and end-of-year requirements to area leadership teams. Neal adds that success in the position requires strong organizational and communication skills, as well as the ability to navigate ambiguity with confidence.
Building connections across teams
Neal regularly partners with teams across Operations, Clinical and Billing, helping align efforts and strengthen collaboration throughout offices. She believes those relationships are essential to organizational success.
“Understanding how your role affects others helps give you your ‘why’ and improves teamwork and collaboration,” she says.
Her approach centers on asking questions, staying open to feedback and understanding how each department contributes to shared goals.
Driving process improvements
Throughout her career at Maxim, Neal has focused on identifying opportunities to improve workflows and support greater consistency across teams.
Some of her key contributions have included:
- Strengthening collaboration between Field Support, Operations and Clinical teams
- Standardizing onboarding processes
- Improving payroll workflows
When evaluating a process, Neal starts with one simple question: “Is this sustainable?”
That mindset, combined with a willingness to learn from colleagues, helps her uncover opportunities for improvement.
“When I felt like I was going a long way to complete a process, I wasn’t shy to pick up the phone and ask other FSMs or Area Field Managers (AFMs) what they had experienced,” she says. “I would gather information, collaborate with my office to see what worked best for us and implement it.”
Embracing technology and continuous learning
Technology has also transformed how teams operate at Maxim. Neal points to tools such as auto-enrollment capabilities, electronic documentation platforms and centralized training resources as examples of innovations that have improved workflows and made information more accessible. She believes easy access to training materials, standard operating procedures and performance resources helps employees become more confident, engaged and self-sufficient in their roles.
Neal’s ‘why’
When asked about the most rewarding part of her job, Neal immediately thinks about helping others succeed.
“Seeing the ‘ah-ha’ moments in people’s eyes, no matter the job family is impactful,” she says. “It brings me joy when I make someone’s job easier by showing them a tool Maxim has created or connecting the dots for them.”
Staying curious
Neal’s passion for supporting others also shapes the advice she shares with colleagues and those considering a career in field support. Her biggest lesson? “Stay curious.”
Neal encourages employees to remain open to new opportunities, ask questions and communicate their career aspirations. She also emphasizes the importance of remembering the purpose behind the role.
“Customer service isn’t just for our caregivers in the field,” she says. “It’s also for the people we work alongside every day.”
Through collaboration, curiosity and a commitment to supporting others, Neal continues to help teams across the West Region work more effectively and create positive experiences for employees, caregivers and patients alike.
